We’re excited to officially share the dates for the 2027 Massachusetts All-State Festival & Conference in Worcester from Wednesday, March 17 – Sunday, March 21, 2027

Here’s what the schedule will look like:

  • Wednesday, March 17Load-in at the DCU Center

  • Thursday, March 18 & Friday, March 19MMEA All-State Conference at the DCU Center

  • Thursday, March 18Four ensembles rehearse at locations throughout Worcester

  • Friday, March 19Four ensembles perform at Mechanics HallAdditional four ensembles rehearse throughout Worcester

  • Saturday, March 20No rehearsals or conference events as the DCU Center and Mechanics Hall are NOT available.

  • Sunday, March 21Remaining four ensembles perform at the DCU Center Grand Ballroom and Junior Ballroom

We know many people have been waiting for this announcement, and we wanted to share a bit about the process behind these decisions because this year involved an incredible number of moving parts and considerations.

Some of the major factors included:

  • Easter Weekend falling on March 26–28

  • District Festival schedules both in February and in March

  • All Eastern dates April 1-4

  • MICCA dates that were proactively secured for April 9-11 back in 2024

  • METG dates

  • Availability of the DCU Center

  • Availability of Mechanics Hall and the Hanover Theatre

  • Venue conflicts throughout Worcester and Boston

We explored MANY possibilities across the state, including:

  • Boston venues such as Symphony Hall, New England Conservatory, colleges, and universities

  • Groton Hill Music Center

  • Springfield venues including MassMutual Center and Springfield Symphony

  • Dates in February and early March

  • Different days of the week - Sunday through Monday, or fully during the week

  • Separating the conference and festival entirely

Ultimately, each option presented significant challenges involving cost, travel, rehearsal space, scheduling, and accessibility for students, families, and educators across Massachusetts.

A few important notes:

  • Sunday, March 21 is Palm Sunday. While we recognize that is not ideal for some families, it was still preferable to holding the festival over Easter Weekend.

  • We looked closely at using Groton Hill on Saturday, but the cost was prohibitively expensive.

  • We also explored moving the festival to Boston, but rough estimates would have pushed costs to approximately $700 per student or more.

  • We considered having ALL ensembles perform at the DCU Center on Sunday. However, because we cannot load in equipment on Saturday, that would have resulted in an extremely long day and very late concerts — especially difficult for schools traveling long distances, including from the Cape and western Massachusetts.

  • This structure also helps alleviate rehearsal space needs. We’ll only need four rehearsal spaces on Thursday and four additional spaces on Friday outside of Mechanics Hall.

  • Ensembles performing Friday at Mechanics Hall will also have rehearsal and dress rehearsal opportunities there.

  • Having no concerts or rehearsals on Saturday also allows the Sunday ensembles time to rest and prepare.

Throughout this process, we’ve tried to balance student experience, accessibility, cost, travel, logistics, venue availability, and the realities of coordinating a statewide event of this scale.

At the end of the day, All-State is about students from across Massachusetts coming together to collaborate, learn, perform, and create unforgettable musical experiences with outstanding conductors and educators.

We truly appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, positivity, and support as we continue planning for 2027. This will absolutely be an “all hands on deck” effort, and we’re deeply grateful for this community and its commitment to our students and music education across the Commonwealth.
