Our congratulations to this year's award recipients, Elena Serrano (from the Rhode Island Music Education Association Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble) and Jeffrey Pinsker-Smith (from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Band). Take a look at the winners discussing their thoughts on jazz, performing and more.

Check out tomorrow's jazz stars when the students take a turn on three of our festival stages. On Friday, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute Workshop Ensemble performs on the Harbor Stage. The Rhode Island Music Education Association Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble shares their talent on Saturday and the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Band steps up front on Sunday, both on the Harbor Stage. The University of Rhode Island Big Band takes over the Quad Stage on Sunday morning.

Thousands of elementary students have been treated to an up-close-and-personal journey through jazz history with the Newport Jazz Assembly. Conceived by former URI student/saxophonist Ben Marcoux, and Newport Festivals Foundation's Director of Education, Deborah Ross, the Newport Jazz Assembly band has visited schools across RI, MA and CT. On Sunday, the Newport Jazz Assembly Band will make their Newport Jazz Festival debut on the Storyville Stage, performing original tunes and standards.

Students from across the nation will join us as participants in the Jazz Camp at Salve Regina University and New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s George Wein Scholars will also be visiting the festival.

Welcome to kids from the Salvation Army and the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County, whose after school music program is funded by Newport Festivals Foundation.
